You know it is late July when the Husker news feeds turn to football speculation, pre-season power rankings, and depth chart predictions. Despite the 100 degree weather blanketing the Cornhusker State, the Kool-Aid is cold and refreshing. This [insert position group here] room is the best in years, this quarterback will be the one to [insert breakthrough description here], and the leadership of [insert name of plucky native son or offensive lineman who is supposed to have a breakout year here].

Who needs AI? Old people like me can write preseason articles in our sleep!

So, are you getting excited for this football season? After the way the last one ended combined with a brutal schedule, I find it hard to raise my expectations beyond ‘low-tier bowl game’ territory. I hope Matt Rhule can orchestrate a breakout year but I am not holding my breath.

I’ll save the hopium for Nebrasketball.
