We've already received some excellent tidbits from the Seattle Seahawks' appearance on this season's Hard Knocks. Episode one delivered so many exciting takeaways. Among them, veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp is still a huge asset.
Kupp displayed his football IQ and on-field coaching presence throughout the debut episode. More importantly, the former Eastern Washington standout is still a productive member of this receiving corps. Some were disappointed with Kupp's statline of 47 receptions for 593 yards and two touchdowns last season, but box-score scouting never tells the complete story.
Fellow Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led all NFL wideouts in receiving last season. He won Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts. Every Seahawks pass catcher took a backseat approach as a result.
Kupp has been effective and impactful throughout training camp. He's making savvy plays via high-level route running ability and his knowledge of the offense. New offensive coordinator Brian Fleury runs a familiar system to Kupp, who has played in likeminded philosophies coached by Klint Kubiak Sean McVay.
The Seahawks will field the effective receiving trio of Smith-Njigba, Rashid Shaheed, and Kupp this season. Sam Darnold will spread the ball around. Expect Kupp to have another effective season that is more valuable than the statline might suggest.
