Conor McGregor says he damaged ACL and meniscus when he injured his right knee during his comeback fight July 11.
McGregor, 38, also said he could return by next summer, according to an update posted on his Instagram account. He will undergo surgery for the injuries, he has said.
McGregor opened his comeback fight against Max Holloway with a flying kick and appeared to injure himself when he landed on his right leg.
He fell twice more and reached for his right knee in apparent pain before the referee stopped the fight 69 seconds after it started at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Holloway was awarded the victory by TKO. But in a post on his Instagram page Wednesday, McGregor said the fight should be ruled a No Contest and the bets should be returned.
Jeff Mullen, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, did not respond to requests for comment from USA TODAY Sports about whether the commission will consider changing the fight to a No Contest.
McGregor already has said he will have surgery and fulfill his UFC contract by fighting one more time.
The comeback fight last weekend was his first fight in five years. His hiatus began when he suffered a broken leg in the first round of his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
He has lost four of his past five fights. His last victory, a first-round knockout of Donald Cerrone, took place Jan. 18, 2020.
McGregor, a former two-division UFC champion, has a record of 22-7.
