After sustaining a serious right knee injury at UFC 329, Conor McGregor has gone under the knife to repair the issue.
And, with the surgery now complete, McGregor took to X on Sunday to provide an update on both what his exact injury was and when he expects to be back.
McGregor announced that not only did he tear his ACL, but also his meniscus. That’s the same injury he suffered in his last fight against Max Holloway, he said, but in the opposite knee.
“It was ACL and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking,” he wrote.

McGregor noted that he fully recovered and was able to fight within nine months after that injury and the 38-year-old anticipates that he could be back to normal by next summer.
“I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer,” McGregor added.
Currently, McGregor is already walking without a crutch and is able to do leg extension exercises.
“I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue,” McGregor revealed. “So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive.”
McGregor’s post-surgery update comes a week and a day after he initially suffered the injury in his rematch against Holloway, which was also his first bout in five years.
The fight was stopped a little over one minute in after it was clear McGregor could no longer continue because of his injury.

The result sparked controversy, as some believed Conor McGregor might have been injured before the bout and simply didn’t tell anyone.
That has led to the internet dissecting videos of McGregor’s movements in the days and hours leading up to the fight.
However, there is no concrete evidence McGregor was injured before the July 11 bout.

“The talk of me being off while walking in to the fight is nonsense,” McGregor said of the theory he was hurt before his bout.
UFC president and CEO Dana White said he did not believe McGregor was hurt, but would not completely rule it out, either.
“Anything is possible, but he sure didn’t look like it,” White said.
UFC 329 won’t be the last time we see McGregor in the Octagon, as the UFC legend’s contract has him set to fight once more. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
