Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod spoke during the league's media day on Tuesday, July 21. In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, she was asked about conference expansion.
“We are always going to explore,” MacLeod said. “We are going to do it in a very strategic way.”
Conference USA boasts 10 teams, including Missouri State. It has the fewest number of teams playing FBS football besides the Mountain West in its revamped league, now featuring former Missouri State FCS foe North Dakota State.

“We are very happy with the 10 and this is a very committed group that is working very well together,” MacLeod said. “That is always something that we will examine and explore.”
Louisiana Tech and UTEP both left the conference following the 2025-26 school year. The Bulldogs departed for the Sun Belt, while the Miners moved to the Mountain West.
Missouri State received a shoutout from the league’s commissioner in her remarks. She was happy with the team’s success in year one, which included a bowl victory over Arkansas State.
“Really proud that our new members have come in ready to compete,” MacLeod said.
