Compensation for Budenholzer?

Maybe I didn't say it well.

I think we win close to 30 games without adding anyone that wasn't on our roster at the end of the season as long as we have decent health. Hopefully, a new coach, a top draft pick and a solid bench addition or two and we'll be in 35 win territory, maybe even join the 40 club. I just don't believe that Ayton will be the big reason for that improvement. Out of the gate, he'll help us and he'll hurt us and we will probably argue over whether he's been a net plus or minus.

I don't think we'd be in the 35 or 40 club with just a top draft pick. With Len's body all but gone (not his game, just his body ), we need both a starting Center and Point Guard. Or it would probably be tank-land all over again. As has been posted a lot this season, most fans have had enough rooting for a team trying to lose.

Well, I was describing a fantasy really. A fantasy where every player on the 2017/2018 roster was still with us the following season (and healthy). Obviously we'll probably be without and thereby need to replace both Len and Payton. But I did it this way so it would be clear that I wasn't suggesting we needed to add major players to the lineup.

I would strongly disagree with this. I'm in the middle, allowing for many possibilities. And I've read many posts here that have already tried and convicted the Front Office on this without a shred of real evidence.

The evidence appears to be in the results. We failed to attract our top choice. And considering the track record of Sarver and McDonough, there is nothing to change the perception that preceded it.

Every episode has not been a new day for the Suns. 'Just the same old-same old. And another brick in the wall of the disrespected reputation of our incompetent Front Office. There have been too many unprofessional incidents to just keep giving them the benefit of the doubt.

It is not my nature to ever give up hope but, geez, enough is enough. Sadly, we're stuck with it.

No. We’ve been over this a thousand times. The tank was FORCED upon him during this year when the team he put together blew up in his face and Bledsoe demanded out. If he was truly planning on tanking this year, Bledsoe would have been shipped off during the offseason when he actually had value.

And two years ago, he didn’t start tanking until the last 15 games of the season after he realized another team he put together was atrocious.

I'm saying when a team tanks... ala the sixers or Memphis this year, you're in for the tank ALL SEASON. We tanked the last 15 games of the season with Bledsoe and Chandler.

Even then, they still had a number of interviews already scheduled. If he was their top choice, why would they have interviews planned through the remainder of the week?

Which led to Bledsoe bailing early this season, leaving the Suns in a quandary and with the reputation of a dysfunctional organization and a full-season continued tank.

And, as has been mentioned, Bud knew that the baby-faced General Manager to whom he would report was hanging by a thread.

So, in answer to your question, I can't say that he was the Suns top choice. Just that he should have been. And he should have been handled with the skill to make it happen.

After Bud spending two days with the Suns doesn't sound like he was using the Suns as leverage. I can see Bud using the Knicks as leverage though.

The part that bothers me about the Suns, why pull his name out of the running? Something happened for him to withdraw his name from consideration.

Until we hear something concrete (and we might never, as others have posted), we can only surmise.


But then, the report that it was a 1-on-1 between Sarver and Bud that ended it sounds like all the proof we need.

He is a minority freaking owner. Where does he come off bypassing his General Manager?

Unless he knows (as many of us feel) that his bargain basement General Manager is unqualified to negotiate, not just money but responsibilities.

That, too, is on the man who hired him as an underling whom he could bully -- Robert Sarver.


It may be a presumption on my part (and the rest of us who have posted similarly), but it is not A LOT of a presumption.

When it comes to Suns leadership under Sarver, the history is no mystery!

I guess Mr. Sarver got his NBA degree from the Donald Sterling School of Basketball Management.

Best thing we can hope for is the NBA to intervene with the Suns like they did with the 76ers. Jerry Colangelo took over the 76ers for a brief time to help straighten out that team and maybe he can come back to Phoenix and do the same for the Suns.
