Mizzou J-schoolers FOIA’d the coaching contracts and we learned some things.

Whether it was the Tribune or STL Today, most of Mizzou media was talking about how much Jason Crowe, Sr. was making over the rest of the coaching staff. They were also spending time on which existing staff members were making less than they were a year ago.

Meanwhile, the Rock M brand is to crunch the numbers, so Matt Harris looked into it.

Some quick math on staff pay, based on UM System salary schedules/records.

– 2026-27: $2.2M
– 2025-26: $1.4M
– 2024-25: $1.9M

Why the dip last year? Well, seeing CY's salary of $685K come off the books is one reason. Also, Steve Wright make ~$100K less than Rob Summers. https://t.co/N7dgFsKyMu

It was actually some pretty smart budgeting. I’ve seen some fans arguing about the existing staff taking a pay cut and how that might affect how they feel about their job… and I don’t know who needs to hear this but there’s no way this happens without everyone being on board from the very early stages. Adding Crowe (both senior and junior) plus Toni Bryant’s mentor comes with some serious planning. All of these things were well known for months, if anyone had an issue with it they could’ve taken another job at any point.

But the staff knows this year is important. They’re going in on a big season and doing that means making a few sacrifices.

Yes Mizzou is having to pay Crowe Senior money as a coach, but Crowe Senior is also very responsible for developing Crowe Junior. And Dad wants to be around for his son’s season, so there were obviously some caveats with the recruitment of Junior. Missouri was willing to accept those caveats, and in turn they get an experienced player development coach who helped a top 5 player become a top 5 player.

Having spent time around coaches, there are a lot of good coaches all over the place. There are some mediocre ones too, but the difference is something that’s hard to tell from the outside.

I don’t worry if Senior or Zach Reynolds are the best coaches or not. I think this Missouri staff is a good one, and they’ve made themselves better with Tavaras Hardy and Jimmie Foster, two extremely skilled and respected coaches. They join Matt Cline, Kyle Smithpeters and Ryan Sharbaugh who have been with Dennis Gates a long time. None of them were surprised by a change in pay to bring on some guys who have some talent attached to them.

Check out the podcast below for some extended thoughts Matt and I had.

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

It’s basically the offseason. Mizzou Baseball lost in the SEC Tournament earlier this week which effectively closes their season. Women’s Golf being their quest in the National Championships today. Men’s Golf is playing in the National Golf Invitational, which isn’t the same as the National Championships, but it will net some sort of result. The real eyes are on the ladies.

Yesterday Mizzou announced a new Tennis coach, after Robin Goodman accepted the gig last week. From MUTigers.com:

“We have everything we need here to be successful at the highest level. We have a community, we have leadership, we have facilities, we have resources, and more than anything, we have the right people. When I first took the position here, you could not believe how many people reached out to me, like coaches, alumni, donors, just all sorts of different people, sending texts and phone calls. Not only did it make me feel incredibly welcome here, but it really showed me that there’s no place like this when it comes to passion, and the amount of pure appreciation for this program and for this university is second to none. I really felt that from day one.”

That was a quote from Goodman, it seems he’s positive he can turn it around. Time will tell, obviously but at least they seem committed to doing more than just punting on Tennis.

Meanwhile, we did publish content here at the ol’ blog, Nathan wrote about Luke Injaychock who is more than just an excellently named prospect:

Luke Injaychock is a great addition for the Tigers’ 2027 recruiting class as he adds some always-needed depth to the offensive line room while bringing some very intriguing athletic and physical tools with him to Columbia. Despite his three-star rating, he holds an excellent offer list, including Ohio State, Illinois, Auburn, Arkansas, Wisconsin and a dozen more P4 schools.

I really hope Injaychock sticks and finds a way to play because I want to hear announcers say his name a lot. It’s shallow, I admit it.
