Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Hoops and a little bit of baseball
For the second straight year, Mark Mitchell has been awarded SEC honors. The senior has landed on the second team — per an announcement on Monday.

Currently leading Mizzou in points, assists, and rebounds — Mitchell became the second Mizzou player to earn second-team honors multiple times (joining Kobe Brown).

From MUTigers.com:
On target to be just the second player in school history to lead the team in points, rebounds and assists in a single campaign, Mitchell has tallied 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a senior. One of just five players in the nation to have totaled 550 points, 160 rebounds and 110 assists this season, Mitchell is also aiming to be the first Tiger to average 17 points, five boards and three assists in a single season since 1992 Big Eight Player of the Year Anthony Peeler.
Mitchell is certainly a player that deserves to be in the NCAA Tournament. Mizzou’s postseason play starts on Thursday in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament against either Kentucky or LSU (so …. Kentucky).
On the diamond, Mizzou Baseball has won 12 in a row and Tyler Macon has been a key cog in the lineup. The St. Louis native from Kirkwood High School was named SEC Extra’s Player of the Week.

Look, no one is pretending the Tigers are out here downing the 2025 LA Dodgers, but they’re winning games (and lots of them) which is something they haven’t been able to do under Kerrick Jackson much during his time in Columbia. Winning is habitual, and the best thing Missouri can do right now is teach themselves how to win before the more intense competition heats up.
It’s a step in the right direction, for sure.
It’s always good to continue Mizzou’s strong connection to East St. Louis, and Lofton represents yet another brick in that wall. Like many of the great Flyers before him, he’s got the eye-popping talent to join the lineague of great ESL Tiger alumni.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Missouri is +8000 to win the tournament, so if you like the Tigers chances you have time to get on that. BartTorvik.com has them at a 49.2% chance to reach the Quarterfinals, a 6.1% chance to reach the Semi-finals, a 1.8% chance to reach the Finals, and a 0.6% chance to win the whole tournament.
Just win one game in Nashville, Mizzou.

Rivals/On3 and 247 both have Aleu listed as a three-star prospect, but his star is rising in the recruiting game. Aleu boasts offers from several SEC schools as well as a few other Power Four programs.
Lual Aleu is a solid addition to Mizzou’s 2027 recruiting class.
NEW! At @RockMNation: My thoughts on @MizzouGym's road meet at Georgia. So much good here despite scoring inequity. https://t.co/tvye9OSHCp

Apparatus-wise, all events remain ranked in the top 10, which is super cool. The Tigers have moved up one spot nationally to no. 8 on beam, and down one spot nationally to no. 9 on vault. They are holding steady on bars and floor from a week ago.
It was still a strong showing for Mizzou Gymnastics in Athens. Tigers remain at No. 7 in the latest Road to Nationals rankings, which are based entirely off scores. The team’s 197.300, while it didn’t jump them in the rankings, did up their NQS.
