Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Hoops

In what should be a pivotal season for the Mizzou Basketball program in Year 5 under Dennis Gates — there’s no question the high-level talent is coming in with one of the top recruiting classes in the entire country.

On Monday, it was announced that five-star guard Jason Crowe Jr. and five-star forward Toni Bryant were named McDonald’s All-Americans.

The nation's leading scorer with 44.1 points per game and future Tiger is now a McDonald's All-American!

Per MUTigers.com, Crowe and Bryant become the sixth and seventh McDonald’s All-Americans in program history (joining Steve Stipanovich, Derrick Chievous, Anthony Peeler, Travon Bryant, and Michael Porter Jr.). It’s the first time in program history that Mizzou has landed both in the same class.

Mizzou four-star commit Aidan Chronister was previously named a McDonald’s All-American nominee but didn’t make the roster cut. Crowe and Bryant will face off against each other as Crowe is on the West team and Bryant is on the East. The McDonald’s All-American game will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona (televised on ESPN). More discussion over at RockM+.

On a football note — after an impressive performance in Saturday’s Senior Bowl, Mizzou’s Zion Young is getting some first-round buzz for the upcoming NFL Draft.

#Mizzou's Zion Young jumped into the first round of Matt Miller's mock draft published this morning over at ESPN. He's projected to go 25th overall to the Chicago Bears after winning Player of the Game for the American squad at the Senior Bowl.@RockMNationpic.twitter.com/TT1rp8XESr

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

Young was consistently called out by scouts for his power and aggression from the EDGE position, with some draft analysts moving him up on their boards to the level of an early Round 2 pick. Not to mention, he did all this while winning Senior Bowl player of the game.

To get that title, Young forced a fumble and went ahead and recorded two tackles to boot. Young is starting to build momentum for himself ahead of the NFL Draft.

It was a heck of a week for Zion Young at the Senior Bowl.

I think Bryant was poised for a big season with Miami this past season but the stars just didn’t align. Now he has that opportunity with the Tigers. Assuming he can stay healthy, I’d expect Bryant to start out of the gates for Mizzou’s defense.

Sometimes, a change of scenery is for the best, and Malik Bryant has the talent to become a big contributor for Mizzou Football.

NEW! at @RockMNation: My very in-depth and quote-filled recap of the #Mizzou-LSU showdown on Friday night. It was a great night at Mizzou Arena. ✨✨✨✨✨https://t.co/Dhv9KWug0J

After five weeks, Mizzou holds steady at no. 7 nationally with a 197.155 average (up from 197.069). They moved down one spot to no. 6 on Vault (49.255 avg), up two spots to no. 10 on Bars (49.220 avg), up two spots to no. 7 on Beam (49.265 avg), and moved down one spot to no. 3 on Floor (49.415 avg). This puts them 6th in the SEC currently, with plenty of opportunity to grow ahead.

Mizzou Gymnastics is still in a good spot — but they have the potential to get even better.
