Official word dropped yesterday of Mizzou and Nebraska agreeing to meet in Kansas City in December

It was a good news bad news day for Mizzou Basketball and the non-conference schedule. We’re leading with the good news because I think most people are going to get on board with the Tigers going to Kansas City to play Nebraska. Sure we’d like for them to play these kinds of games more on campus, but I’ll always take more quality opponents and fewer Quad 4 games against SWAC teams.

The bad news is Jon Rothstein tweeted out the ACC-SEC Matchups and Mizzou is going to play Pitt… again.

Here are the matchups per Rothstein:

  • Arkansas at North Carolina
  • Auburn at Clemson
  • Duke at Florida
  • Boston College at Georgia
  • Wake Forest at LSU
  • Pitt at Missouri
  • Syracuse at Oklahoma
  • Ole Miss at Virginia Tech
  • South Carolina at NC State
  • Florida State at Tennessee
  • Texas at Louisville
  • Alabama at Miami
  • Kentucky at Virginia
  • Georgia Tech at Mississippi State
  • Stanford at Texas A&M
  • Vanderbilt at Notre Dame

That’s just a brutal draw for the Tigers. Pitt wanted to fire Jeff Capel but didn’t have the money, and then didn’t give him much to spend in NIL for the transfer portal. They were 13-20 last year, and 98th in KenPom, and Capel is hoping to revamp some dead careers in Jalil Bethea and Jonathan Powell. Color me skeptical, but also just an utterly uninteresting matchup for the 3rd time in four years.

I’m happy Dennis Gates has been aggressive in scheduling now with SLU, Marquette, Nebraska, Illinois, and Kansas, only to be potentially torpedoed with a dud matchup in the ACC-SEC Challenge. The ACC has been down, and a large part of that has been the back end of the league has been awful. Things were marginally better last year, so hopefully they’re making strides to be more competitive. But it’s just disappointing to get this matchup again.

So Yay playing the ‘Huskers!

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

Other than the Feed post to talk Nebraska, yesterday was a quiet day at the ol’ blog. Just Nathan Hurst breaking down the best players Mizzou Football is going to play this upcoming fall:

KJ Bolden arrived at Georgia in 2024 as one of the most coveted recruits in the nation. A native of Buford, Georgia, the 6-0, 185 lbs. defensive back was a five-star prospect who wasted little time making an impact in Athens.

As a true freshman, Bolden immediately earned a starting role in Georgia’s secondary and finished the season with 59 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception. His ability to play both safety spots and cover large areas of the field helped him earn a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team and Freshman All-America recognition.

He also scouted Florida’s Jaden Baugh. You should check it out.

Over on Rock M+ Matt Watkins has posted his early PAR rankings for the SEC. And we had plenty of discussion on the news about Nebraska… and some thoughts on Pitt.
