The Washington Commanders have a slew of impending free agents in 2026, including wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Samuel was brought in by Adam Peters via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers while the Commanders were still negotiating with Terry McLaurin on a contract extension. Samuel was meant to complement McLaurin, but after the extended contract negotiations and McLaurin's injury, Samuel had a more prominent role than expected early in the season.

After playing six seasons with the 49ers and one with the Commanders, Samuel will test the free agency market in 2026. At least, that's what it sounds like his plan is.

#Commanders WR Deebo Samuel was asked on the Downs 2 Business podcast on being a free agent:

• What team do you want to play for?
- “I don’t know bro, we’ll see how it goes”

Also added that he believes Washington has to make a decision by March 6th.

The "Downs 2 Business" podcast is hosted by Josh and Caleb Downs, one a current NFL player for the Indianapolis Colts, and the other expected to be a top selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. They ask Samuel which team he wants to play for.

"I don't know, bro, we'll see how it goes," Samuel replied.

"What are y'all gonna do this year? The Commanders," asks Downs.

"Bro, I'm a free agent, so we're gonna see what's going on."

The three continue to discuss free agency and what that looks like from a player's perspective, but it sure sounds like Samuel is ready to test the market for the first time in his career.

The veteran wide receiver just turned 30 in January, which drastically changes the amount of money he will get. He's also only had one season with over 1,000 yards receiving. Over his six years in the NFL, Samuel has recorded 406 receptions for 5,519 yards and 27 touchdowns, and added 219 carries for 1,218 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Samuel still has fuel in the tank, which he showed with the Commanders in 2025. He is still respected by defenses and treated as a top player in this league, so wherever he lands, he's going to make an impact.
