Where in the world is DePauw University? A Division III school located in Greencastle, Indiana, isn't exactly known as a hotbed for NFL talent. However, the Tigers do have a prospect on the radar of NFL teams ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Wide receiver Robby Ballentine was an Associated Press Division III first-team All-American in 2025. The 6-foot-0, 200-pound Ballentine set a school record with 92 receptions and 1,314 yards last season. He also caught 16 touchdowns, which is tied for second in school history. Ballentine's 20 touchdown receptions in 2024 are first.
While Ballentine may not be on the radar to be drafted, he could be targeted as a priority free agent. He recently worked out at the Indianapolis Colts' local pro day, where he excelled, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston.
Additionally, Wilson revealed that Ballentine has met with seven other NFL teams. These aren't official top-30 visits, but they do indicate interest in the Division III star.
The Washington Commanders, who desperately need help at wide receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, are one of those teams. Ballentine has also met with the Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks, Broncos, Vikings and Chiefs.
Ballentine finished his career with a North Coast Athletic Conference record 253 receptions, along with 3,783 yards and a DePauw and NCAC record 54 touchdowns.
He recently spoke with NFL Draft Diamonds and explained why he should be a top receiver prospect.
"I am a top prospect at wide receiver on the 2026 draft because of my route running and strong hands paired with a combination of size, strength, and athleticism," Ballentine said. "I work extremely hard to accomplish my goals, and my favorite thing to do on the football field is to win. I am extremely coachable, and I love getting new ideas from new coaches and other sources to help my game."
The Commanders have six picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including four on Day 3. Could Washington use one of its later picks on Ballentine? In addition to being a standout college receiver, Ballentine could also help on special teams.
