The Washington Commanders will take a running back in this week's 2025 NFL draft. The question is, does Washington take one of the top backs at the end of Round 1, or wait until later? Remember, this is a loaded running back class.

The Commanders have done plenty of homework on this class. Washington has hosted multiple running backs on visits, most of whom will be available from Rounds 3-7. However, according to John Keim of ESPN, the Commanders have met with Ohio State star TreVeyon Henderson "multiple times."

There are many different ways teams can meet with prospects. There is the Senior Bowl, at the player's pro day, private workouts, virtual meetings and top 30 visits, where the player comes to the team's facility. The details of Washington's meetings with Henderson are unclear. Still, it should be noted that the former Buckeye and Virginia native is projected to go in the first round or early second round. Multiple meetings between the Commanders and Henderson would appear to indicate significant interest.

Washington's top two running backs, Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler, are free agents after next season. So are the Commanders' No. 3 and No. 4 backs, Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez, respectively. Adding a back in this draft is not just about keeping an eye toward the future, but also about enhancing the 2025 offense. The Commanders want to add an explosive back to the roster, and no one fits that description better than Henderson.

The 2025 NFL draft kicks off on Thursday evening from Green Bay.
