The Washington Commanders want a running back in the 2025 NFL draft. Washington has been linked to a number of backs, including Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson and Iowa's Kaleb Johnson. There have been others, too, but the rest are considered potential third-round picks or later, whereas Henderson will likely go in Round 1, while Johnson lands in Round 2.

It's a good year to need a running back. This is a loaded class. Remember, Washington's top four running backs, which include Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler, are entering the final year of their contracts.

One of the running backs the Commanders have heavily scouted is former Virginia Tech star Bhayshul Tuten. According to Tuten himself, Washington had a Zoom meeting with him, and he also worked out for running backs coach/run game coordinator Anthony Lynn.

"I had a private workout with the running back coach (Lynn) there," Tuten told "Grant & Danny" of 106.7 The Fan in Washington this week. "We went to lunch and chatted ball a little. Had a Zoom with them."

Tuten noted that he and Lynn went to lunch after his private workout in Blacksburg recently.

Tuten began his career at North Carolina A&T and rushed for over 1,300 yards during his sophomore year with 17 total touchdowns before transferring to Virginia Tech ahead of the 2023 season. During two years with the Hokies, Tuten rushed for over 2,000 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt, also caught four touchdown passes and averaged over 28 yards per kickoff return. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Finally getting around to VT RB Bhayshul Tuten. He's so much more than just a speed back. He reads leverage well and makes quick decisions, regularly finding cutback lanes and exploiting them pic.twitter.com/XZF7Ws0wqj

Tuten is 5-foot-9 and 206 pounds, but runs like he's much bigger. He possesses outstanding vision and patience, which, when you consider his speed (4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash), makes him an exciting prospect

One concern is fumbling. Tuten fumbled multiple times during his two years with the Hokies, although he didn't lose many. He acknowledged during his interview that it is an area he's looking to fix.

The Commanders want a big-play back who can play every down. Tuten can be that guy, even if he needs some time to work on pass protection. Remember, Washington has Robinson and Ekeler next season, so the Commanders could use Tuten in a specialized role and bring him along slowly.
