Washington Commanders defensive tackle will be out for "at least a significant portion of the regular season," per Steve Wyche and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Tunsil will likely require surgery and miss significant time, but it is too early to put a timetable on his projected return. Tunsil was hurt in a one-on-one pass rush drill after bending over in pain and heading to the medical tent on Saturday for further evaluation.
Tunsil is a five-time Pro Bowler heading into his 11th year, and his 2nd with the Commanders. Per Pro Football Focus, Tunsil is coming off a very productive 2025 season, finishing 6th overall with 89 tackles while finishing 2nd in pass blocking.
Obviously seeking a second and third opinion on the injury, it appears that Tunsil will be out a minimum of four to seven months.
The Commanders have been dealt blow after blow when it comes to injuries over the past couple of seasons, following a 12-5 2024 campaign and an NFC Championship Game appearance. Last season, they finished 5-12.
