The Washington Commanders simply haven't found the right player to pair with Terry McLaurin.

This past season, it was Deebo Samuel, but McLaurin was hurt too much anyway, and Samuel is in free agency likely to go elsewhere.

So entering the 2026 season, the Commanders' WR depth chart leaves a lot to be desired.

There's McLaurin, and then there's everyone else. It's so rough that ESPN's Ben Solak listed a six-player competition for the right to start opposite McLaurin.

Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane and Van Jefferson could all be in the picture.

A few of those guys could be the choice in the slot, too, so nothing is a given, and nobody is such a heavy favorite that they couldn't be leapfrogged this offseason.

There's also the looming Brandon Aiyuk question, but nothing has come to fruition yet involving the 49ers' wideout.

"Washington has struggled with WR depth behind Terry McLaurin for years now," Solak writes. "Last year's solution -- Deebo Samuel -- remains a free agent as the Commanders search for a more dynamic alternative. A free agent or trade (Brandon Aiyuk?) could still fill the spot, but the Commanders need someone to emerge from this smattering of veterans and recent middle-round picks. Williams, the 2026 third-rounder, is the one to watch with his high ceiling and inside/outside versatility."

The Commanders need to get this right somehow for the sake of Jayden Daniels. After a great rookie season, injuries marred his second campaign.

In year three with Daniels, Washington wants to get back to the postseason. Having multiple good wide receivers would help that cause.
