It's been a frustrating summer for Washington Commanders cornerback Trey Amos. The second-year defensive back fractured his fibula in a Week 10 loss to the Detroit Lions last season. Throughout the offseason, Amos said he was good to go, at least physically, but he still needed to pass a physical before he could take the practice field.

Last week, Amos passed his physical and was activated from the physically unable to perform list. He was on the practice field for the first time last Friday. On Saturday, Amos again left the field early with an unknown injury.

The Commanders had the day off on Sunday, so head coach Dan Quinn was asked about Amos' status ahead of Monday's practice.

"Yeah, it was actually on the deep ball that he and Terry [McLaurin] battled for; it was a deep ball down the field on the left sideline," Quinn said. "And so, kinda came down awkwardly on the ankle. So, just kinda holding him out, got sore, and I'll have better update for you in a day or two."

On the surface, it doesn't sound too significant. But when you consider he just returned after being sidelined from football activities since early November, it is a concern. Washington would have liked Amos to participate in this week's joint practice with the Miami Dolphins, even if he didn't play in Friday's preseason game. But with Quinn saying they were holding him out for the time being, seeing him on Wednesday seems aggressive.

Quinn was asked about the possibility of Amos participating in the joint practice.

"I don't know yet, JP. I'll have a better sense of that, maybe in a day and a half. We'll see where he is over the next day or so, but I can probably give you a better update as we get closer to Wednesday."

We'll see if Amos is back on the field for Tuesday morning's practice, and if Quinn has another update on his ankle.
