In Lance Zierlein's final 2025 NFL mock draft, the Indianapolis Colts make a jump up the draft board to acquire the playmaking tight end that this offense very much needs.
With Tyler Warren off the board at pick No. 7 to the New York Jets, the Colts trade up five spots to pick No. 9 in a swap with the New Orleans Saints.
Zierlien didn't specify what the Colts would have to give up in order to get to pick No. 9, but if we use the Jimmy Johnson trade value chart as our guide, it could include Indianapolis parting with picks 80 and 116.
"The Colts don't risk missing out on the dynamic tight end out of Michigan, moving into the top 10 to secure his services. Loveland can become a highly targeted option for whomever ends up starting at quarterback."
Potentially having to move up in order to land one of Warren or Loveland may end up actually being in consideration for the Colts.
Most mocks have Warren going inside the top 10, while Peter Schrager had the Colts moving up to pick No. 10 for Loveland in his mock, and in Daniel Jeremiah's final mock, Loveland and Warren were both off the board before pick 14.
Going beyond the mock drafts, Mel Kiper Jr. would mention that he has heard of a few teams who are trying to leapfrog the Colts at pick 14 in order to get Loveland.
"Everyone is connecting the Colts to the tight ends," Kiper wrote. "As such, I've heard that a few teams might even be trying to trade ahead of Indianapolis to get Loveland, though it's unclear which ones."
Tight end may be a pressing need for the Colts, but several insiders and draft experts don't necessarily believe it's a given that one of the top two options at that position will be available at pick 14, which could force GM Chris Ballard to have to operate aggressively. Otherwise, addressing this hole on the roster becomes a lot more uncertain.
