The Cowboys have lost another depth piece to their team, this time on defense, after safety Juanyeh Thomas agreed to terms with the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year contract.
Thomas is just the second former Cowboys player to sign with another team after nearly a full week of free agency, as wide receiver Jalen Tolbert signed with the Dolphins earlier Friday. After accruing over 1,200 snaps through his three seasons, Thomas became a restricted free agent as a former UDFA, and Dallas chose not to place any tender offer on him.
Thomas, 25, originally signed with the Cowboys out of Georgia Tech after the 2022 NFL Draft. He didn't make the team but was signed to the club's practice squad where he remained for the duration of the season.
In 2023, Thomas made the roster and appearing in 16 games, starting once. In 2024, Thomas played in 13 games prompting hope that the Cowboys may have found a dependable rotational piece.
Last season, things began to unravel for Thomas after he was limited to seven games and three starts while battling migraine issues. It affected him so bad that Thomas was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list in November and was shut down for the remainder of the season in December.
In three seasons, Thomas played in 36 games, had 62 tackles, forced one fumble yet never recorded an interception.
