Between now and training camp, we will be going through the Indianapolis Colts' full 90-man roster, previewing each player.
Up next is wide receiver Deion Burks, who wears No. 80.
The Colts selected Burks in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL draft. He was the 254th overall selection and was viewed by many draft analysts as an excellent value pick by Indianapolis.
Burks played a big role in Oklahoma's offense last season, totaling 86 targets. He would catch 58 of those passes for 617 yards with four touchdowns. This past season, Burks was quite good after the catch as well, showcasing his playmaking abilities.
Although measuring in at under 5-10 and weighing 180 pounds, most of Burks' snaps came out wide during his career rather than in the slot. The Colts believe he can continue to line up both inside and out at the NFL level and contribute in the return game if needed.
There are several wide-ranging outcomes for Burks during his rookie season. He could earn regular rotational snaps at the WR3 position, which will be one of the bigger training camp battles this summer. At the moment, Ashton Dulin appears to be the front-runner for those snaps.
If that doesn't work out, Burks could provide depth at the receiver position, stepping in when the team is shorthanded, while perhaps carving out some sort of role on special teams.
Or Burks could be left off the roster altogether. ESPN's Stephen Holder recently left Burks off his pre-training camp roster prediction. Although a recent draft pick, seventh-round selections are rarely locks to make a team, not to mention that in recent years we've seen Ballard release a few of the current year's draft picks during roster cutdowns.
Anthony Gould continuing to be the return man, along with Laquon Treadwell's ability to contribute to multiple special teams phases, could be what keeps Burks off the roster.
