INDIANAPOLIS — Colts slot cornerback Kenny Moore II is returning to practice for the first time since suffering an Achilles injury against the Titans three weeks ago.
Moore will do individual drills, but his status for the rest of the week remains unclear.
Indianapolis could use the help at cornerback. The Colts may be playing the Chargers without No. 1 cornerback Charvarius Ward, who suffered a concussion in a collision with Drew Ogletree during pregame.
Ward will not practice on Wednesday.
Indianapolis is perilously thin at the cornerback position. The Colts do not have Jaylon Jones, who is on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in the preseason, and neither Jones or linebacker Jaylon Carlies is expected to return to practice in an effort to return from injured reserve yet.
“Not right now,” Steichen said.
Without Jones available, the Colts’ starters on the outside will likely be Mekhi Blackmon and Johnathan Edwards, a pairing that struggled against the Cardinals last week.
