Indianapolis Colts' cornerback Charvarius Ward did not make the trip to New England for the joint practice with the Patriots, GM Chris Ballard told local reporters on Tuesday.

According to The Athletic's James Boyd, Ballard says that Ward is not practicing due to "some back pain and irritation."

There is no timeline for his return.

Throughout training camp, the combination of Ward and Sauce Gardner at cornerback has presented fits for the Colts' offense. The two have the ability to form one of the better cornerback duos in football this season.

Ward sustained three concussions last season, which limited him to seven games. Coming out of the 2025 season, Ward said that he did consider retiring at that time.

In his first season with the Colts, Ward allowed a completion rate of 57% on 37 targets with seven pass breakups over seven games. His presence on the field and ability to play on an island allow Lou Anarumo to call much more aggressive games.
