INDIANAPOLIS — Three high-profile members of the Colts’ starting lineup did not take part in Wednesday’s organized team activity.

Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor, along with the starting cornerback tandem of Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward, were not present because of what Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen called family reasons.

Steichen indicated that all three players have been in and out of Indianapolis during the team’s offseason program, a period that is not mandatory.

The Colts expect all three players to participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp, the official end of the team’s offseason workouts from June 9-11 before the league-wide summer break.

“It’s mandatory mini-camp, so they will definitely be here,” Steichen said.

Right tackle Jalen Travis watched the practice session from the sidelines. The second-year tackle, who has been expected to take over Braden Smith’s spot in the starting lineup after the Colts allowed their long-time right tackle to leave in free agency, is dealing with a back injury.

“He’s dealing with a little something right now, but he’ll be all right,” Steichen said.

Indianapolis wide receiver Alec Pierce also watched from the sidelines while wearing a sleeve on his left leg. Pierce had surgery this offseason to clean up an ankle injury, and he’s expected back for the start of training camp.
