One of the strange things about the unlimited transfer portal era is the return of some near recruiting misses. Back in the day, fans of the Colorado Buffaloes could lament the near-misses of recruiting for a career, like Junior Seau or Jeremy Maclin or Landry Jones. it leads to some pretty fun “what if” stories. Now, if you lost a recruiting battle one year, it just puts you in a great position the next year if the player is considering leaving his school. Is the complete instability, brought upon the NCAA’s obstinance, good for the sport? No. But when you get Boo Carter, it can be fun for you as a fan.
Carter was one of the more exciting recruits that became interested in Colorado following the wake of Travis Hunter’s historic domination. Eventually, Carter ended up deciding to stay closer to home and enroll at the University of Tennessee. After two seasons of production,, he and the program had a falling out, the reasons for which are somewhat cloudy. It sounds like Boo Carter had some maturity issues to work through, and Josh Heupel was fnished with his patience. In the end, both sides needed a fresh start, which is good news for Deion Sanders and the Buffs. Carter will play right away at defensive back, and may play some on offense as well.
