Apr. 17—Jaycie Pacheco stepped up to the plate with Odessa College facing two outs with a runner on base and tied at 6-6 in game two against Midland College.

The freshman wouldn't disappoint.

Pacheco would single into center field for the walkoff victory, scoring Kayla Hernandez in game two as the Lady Wranglers took the doubleheader, winning both games by scores of 6-4 and 7-6 Thursday at Wrangler Softball Complex.

Playing against the second place Lady Chaps, Odessa College improved to 33-4 overall, 14-0 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play.

"I was just thinking that whatever happens will happen," Pacheco said of what was going through her mind at her last at-bat. "I knew what I had to do and just did it."

Odessa College erased a 5-2 deficit in game two.

"We didn't give in," Odessa College head coach Doug Eastman said. "They just kept coming at us and we made 37 changes and used every pitcher and player at our disposal. We're a dangerous team. in the bottom of the inning, we were able to make a difference."

Midland College fell to 33-6, 8-2.

Both teams will face each other Friday in Midland to finish up the series in a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.

"It's not going to be easy," Eastman said. "We have to get pitchers to throw better tomorrow. They were average today. They need to do a better job tomorrow but it's going to be tough, no matter what."

Neither team could get a run in the first inning as the game remained scoreless early on.

An error by the Odessa College outfield allowed Midland College's Abigail Covarrubias to score to opening run for the Lady Chaps and the visitors had a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.

Odessa College scored the tying run off an RBI by Diveli Cherry as Mackenzei Mahagan-Bernal crossed home plate in the bottom of the second inning.

A double by Neve Adams led to two runs and the hosts had a 3-1 lead in the second.

However, Midland College would answer back with a three-run surge in the third inning.

The Lady Chaps got a run back to make it a one-run deficit.

A two-run homer by Karissa Garcia gave Midland College the lead right back at 4-3.

Neither team could get a run in the fourth and the game remained at 4-3.

Mason Barclay's triple scored Taryn Blazevich and the Lady Wranglers tied the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.

Mahagan-Bernal then capitalized with a homerun and Odessa College had a 6-4 lead.

Midland College then made a pitching change, replacing Perez with Tessia Guzman.

The Lady Wranglers couldn't get another run in the remainder of the inning and went into the seventh, up by two.

A leadoff hit from the Lady Chaps led to a double and the Lady Wranglers made a pitching change as Jayda Lorigan took over on the mound, replacing Haydn Milley in the seventh.

Midland College got another runner on base as Marissa Espinoza's single put potential go-ahead runner Erikha Subia up to bat with no outs.

Subia would get out in deep center field.

Brianna Flores was next to bat for the Lady Chaps but she got out at first.

With Madyson Bradley up to bat for Midland College, the Lady Chaps had a runner in scoring position.

Bradley's hit was picked off by Renske Tellekamp for the victory.

Flores got things going for Midland College in the first inning in game two with a two-run homer.

Odessa College responded in the bottom of the first.

Blazevich scored Franka to make the score 2-1.

Tellekamp them homered over the center field fence to tie the game up in the bottom of the second.

An error from Odessa College led to a run by Subia and the Lady Chaps retook the lead in the top of the third.

Flores then slid home for a Lady Chap run and the score was 4-2.

Things didn't get any easier for the Lady Wranglers as Midland College added another run to its lead to make it a 5-2 lead in the top of the third.

"I don't mind that we were down 5-2 early," Eastman said. "If we were down 5-2 in the sixth inning, that would've concerned me. But we had time to climb back. We had some crucial calls that didn't go our way. We got rattled for an inning or two. We settled down and got the job done."

Odessa College loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth with two outs and with Franka up to bat.

Franka was walked and Peyton Archer scored to make it 5-3.

Blazevich then got out and the Lady Wranglers entered the fifth, trailing by two.

Anays Perez then took over in the circle for Odessa College.

OC's Mason Barclay led-off with a homerun over the left field fence to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

Odessa College then got another homerun, this time by Tellekamp as the Dutch native knocked her second ball out of the park and the game was tied.

"I was just hitting as hard as I could and seeing what happens," Tellekamp said.

Midland College retook the lead on a slide at home by Flores in the sixth.

Franka was walked in the bottom of the sixth but then got out while trying to steal second.

The Lady Wranglers' deficit remained 6-5, heading into the seventh.

Odessa College held Midland College scoreless in the top of the seventh and had one last chance to either win the game or go into extra innings.

Mahagan-Bernal then homered over the left field fence to tie the game up.

Midland College then put in Guzman in at pitcher.

Pacheco's walk off scored Kayla Hernandez.

"It's ironic that she's from Midland, isn't it?" Eastman said of Pacheco. "But to get the concentration and get that big hit for us, I can't say enough."
