Clemson HC Dabo Swinney indicated that if the 2017 season booted up today, junior QB Kelly Bryant would be his starter.

Bryant entered the spring as Clemson's No. 1 on the depth chart. Looks like he is leaving the spring that way, too. "But we don't play today. We play in September, and everything counts. I'm pleased with the spring all of them have had," Swinney said. In addition to Bryant, redshirt freshman Zerrick Cooper and five-star true freshman Hunter Johnson are also vying for the monumental job of stepping in for the draft-bound Deshaun Watson. Of Cooper and Johnson, Swinney said, " Both are learning, growing every day. They'll take that into the summer, and by the time we get to fall, you'll see the transformation."

Former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes passes away at 79
Former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes has passed away at the age of 79, a school spokesperson confirmed Monday.

Dykes served as head coach of the Red Raiders from 1986 to 1999 and led the program to seven bowl games while going 82-67-1. He earned coach of the year honors three times in the Southwest Conference as well as in the Big 12's inaugural season in 1996.

"A lot of people in this world don't have any fun, but I've had a ball," Dykes said when he retired in 1999.

Illinois junior WR Desmond Cain transferred to North Dakota State.

Cain, a three-star recruit, got off to a quick start in college with a 53-492-1 receiving line as a freshman in 2015. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign was a huge disappointment (five passes for 61 yards) due to both a knee issue and a general falling out with the new coaching staff. Since he's dropping to the FCS, Cain is eligible to play for the Bison immediately in 2017.
