Clemson remains in contention for one of the top defensive prospects in the 2027 class.

Five-star cornerback Hayden Stepp has narrowed his recruitment to five schools, with Clemson joining Oregon, Alabama, Miami, and Tennessee on the short list. The Bishop Gorman standout from Las Vegas released his top five late Sunday, keeping the Tigers firmly in the mix as the process moves forward.

Clemson’s involvement gained traction after Stepp visited campus for the SMU game in late October. That trip resulted in an offer shortly afterward, quickly elevating Clemson’s standing in his recruitment. Stepp acknowledged the offer publicly at the time, pointing to his conversation with Dabo Swinney as a meaningful moment in the process.

At 6-foot-3, Stepp brings ideal size for the corner position and has produced on the field to match his reputation. As a junior, he totaled 24 tackles and four pass breakups across nine games, consistently matching up against top competition in Nevada.

National evaluators view Stepp as one of the elite players in the 2027 cycle. ESPN ranks him No. 15 overall nationally, third among cornerbacks, and the top prospect in the state of Nevada. Three of the four major recruiting services place him inside the top five at his position.

With Clemson now firmly established in Stepp’s final group, the Tigers are set to battle several national powers as one of the marquee defensive recruitments of the 2027 class continues.

This will not happen again when you say “do the usual.” If you want, I can also tighten this or make it even more conversational.
