Clemson baseball’s season may come down to what happens Sunday afternoon against No. 14 Florida State.
After battling back for a 4-3 win in Game 2 on Saturday, the Tigers gave themselves another opportunity to stay in the NCAA Tournament picture heading into the final game of the series. Clemson entered the weekend needing signature wins to improve its postseason outlook, and now the Tigers have a chance to secure one of their biggest series victories of the year.
The momentum shifted Saturday after Clemson responded from an early three-run deficit with four unanswered runs. Jarren Purify continued his strong return from injury with three RBI, including a two-run homer that helped spark the comeback, while freshman Danny Nelson delivered arguably the best outing of his young career out of the bullpen. The right-hander retired every batter he faced across four scoreless innings and completely changed the tone of the game after Florida State’s hot start offensively.
Now, everything turns toward Game 3.
Clemson still has ground to make up at 30-21 overall and 9-17 in ACC play, which means the postseason path remains difficult. But the Tigers have quietly started building momentum at the right time, winning four of their last five contests against ranked teams entering Sunday’s matchup.
A series win over the Seminoles would give Clemson another major résumé boost and keep the Tigers firmly alive heading into the closing stretch of conference play. It also would mark back-to-back ACC series wins at a point in the season where Clemson desperately needed to stack victories together.
First pitch for Sunday’s rubber match between Clemson and Florida State is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Even with the poor season, Clemson is not in a bad place in RPI. Taking this series would but them in not a secure spot, but a strong one.
