PHILADELPHIA – The Cincinnati Reds made it 2-for-2 in shortstops drafted on the first day of the 2026 MLB Draft, when they used their second-round pick to select Virginia shortstop Eric Becker with the 58th overall pick in the draft.
Becker, 21, hit .317 with a .427 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 45 games for the Cavaliers this season.
The Suffern, New York native, who went to high school in New Jersey, was the 41st-ranked prospect in the draft by MLB Pipeline, 50th by Baseball America.
The Reds also selected University of Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron with their first pick in the draft, 18th overall.
