De’Zhaun Stribling has been one of my favorite fantasy rookie wideouts, despite the fact that he started the summer behind Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, and Christian Kirk on the depth chart. Now Kirk is hurt. A strong camp would make Stribling one of fantasy’s biggest bargains.
When the Niners selected Stribling with the first pick in the second round of this year’s draft, they were investing in a potentially NFL-ready wideout. But why? Aren’t they deep at receiver with Evans, Pearsall, and Kirk, along with TE George Kittle and monster pass-catching RB Christian McCaffrey? But most of these guys are on the verge of post-prime. McCaffrey is 30. Kittle and Evans are entering their age-33 seasons. Kirk will turn 30 in November.
All four -- plus Pearsall -- are sub-par on the durability scale. It would be farfetched to think that Stribling won’t earn starts. Kirk has been the most likely domino to fall, as he’s been frequently injured and in decline these past two years. Now that he’s injured, the door is open for Stribling to seize a Week 1 starting role.
Three weeks ago, Stribling’s ADP was WR68. Now it’s somehow 100. The market has forgotten about him. Savvy managers shouldn’t.
