Oh boy that’s a big # in dollars and years.
I'm confused, it's still $30m per year for 4 years. Only difference from the 3/90 we've been talking about is the extra year. And that will fall under the "Over 38" rule.

Here is the text of it:

The Over-38 rule generally takes effect when a free agent signs a long-term contract that extends beyond his 38th birthday. In these cases, the salary in the year(s) after the player turns 38 is considered deferred compensation, and is applied to the years earlier in the contract, when that salary is actually being earned. In most cases, this prevents the team from completing the contract using the necessary cap room or exception.

It's complicated, but there is a chance we won't take a cap hit in the 4th year at all.

The injury could have happened on a foul by Beverley.

Of course it did. The NBA allowed Beverley's dirty play to continue. He injured the Suns' best two players, and neither were as effective afterwards.

It was when Beverly undercut him...on purpose...and then mocked him. The entire point of that dirty play was to get Cp3 to fall awkwardly and hurt himself.

Anyone that think Beverly didn't purposely try to take out 2 best players is fooling himself. Now the question becomes if Ty Lou and the rest of the coaches were in on it??

When you get that far into the playoffs, it seems to be a legit strategy to send out a thug to injur star players. Worked for the spurs for years!

If a player gets suspended for a clearly dirty play, coach should get 2X the number of games. Only way to stop the tactic
Except if someone did it to a Laker (especially Bronnie) - then it would be an automatic forfeit and year suspension.

The deal for Paul is reportedly not bad as it appears.

The fourth year may only be partially guaranteed for Chris Paul.

By Gerald Bourguet Fansided:

It was imperative the Suns brought him back after enjoying their first playoff run since 2010, and they did well to bring him back. A four-year deal seems scary, but Phoenix wisely used a loophole in the NBA’s CBA that deals with the Over-36/Over-38 Rules. As The Four-Point Play’s David Nash expertly explains, through this loophole, the Suns will essentially be able to re-sign Paul to a four-year, $120 million deal, but not all of that fourth year would be guaranteed. If the Suns wanted to reach the $100 million asking price that was initially reported, they could only guarantee $10 million of that fourth season.

Unbelievable if true on last two years of Paul's contract.

Whoa. May be better than we thought:

This is actually an excellent deal. There was an article the other day about how a 4 year deal shouldn't be alarming due to the Over 38 Rule. If this report is true, it is even a better deal than I was expecting.

can that REALLY be true with the last two years of that deal? if so, JJ is really cooking with gas with right.

JJ has made some very nice moves, but he seems incapable of getting us the big man we so desperately need. This would make three years in a row that this critical need is going unaddressed.
