The ESPN Staff recently identified Chris Godwin Jr. as one of their fantasy football sleepers heading into the 2026 NFL season.
According to ESPN, Godwin's outlook improved considerably following the departure of Mike Evans in free agency. With Evans no longer occupying a significant share of Tampa Bay's passing game, additional opportunities could become available throughout the offense.
The article also noted that Godwin's 2025 season was impacted by his recovery from a broken ankle. Despite that setback, ESPN pointed out that the veteran receiver showed encouraging signs late in the year and remains one of the more trusted targets for quarterback Baker Mayfield.
ESPN's projections reflect that confidence. The outlet currently expects Godwin to finish second on the team in targets during the 2026 season, trailing only Emeka Egbuka.
While much of the attention surrounding Tampa Bay's receiver room has focused on younger players stepping into larger roles, ESPN believes Godwin could still provide significant value both on the field and for fantasy managers. If he can put his injury issues behind him and return to full strength, he may once again become one of the most productive receivers in the Buccaneers' offense.
