The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen some shakeup in their longtime receiving duo.
On Monday, star receiver Mike Evans agreed to a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers at the start of the NFL free agency period. The Bucs drafted Evans with the seventh pick in 2024, and he has played all 12 seasons of his career with the franchise.
That leaves veteran wideout Chris Godwin as the only remaining piece of the Buccaneers' longtime receiving corps. For the first time since 2017, Evans won't be lining up alongside Godwin, who took to social media to express his sadness in the form of a single emoji.
Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second-Team All-Pro. However, he's coming off an injury-plagued campaign in which he appeared in just eight games and made only 30 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns — all career lows.
Questions about the 32-year-old's health, as well as a big deal for Godwin and the emergence of star rookie Emeka Egbuka, made this move an unsurprising one. Still, it seems Godwin is sad to see his longtime teammate go.
