On Monday, May 5, the Kansas City Chiefs released veteran defensive back Robert Rochell, and signed rookie safety Major Williams.

Rochell was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft and joined Kansas City on March 28 after a two-year stint with the Green Bay Packers between 2023 and 2024.

Williams earned a tryout with the Chiefs after an illustrious collegiate career at Carson-Newman University, where he played in 34 games over three years and tallied four interceptions.

News of Rochell's release and Williams' signing was first reported by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com in a post to Twitter on Monday evening:

Chiefs are signing S Major Williams, per source. He’s an undrafted free agent from Carson-Newman who attended minicamp on a tryout basis. He was one of my two top performers among the tryout candidates. https://t.co/6umMrDppjV

While Williams is a long shot to make Kansas City's 53-man roster, the fact that he turned a tryout into an NFL contract is impressive and bodes well for his future in the league.

Stay tuned to see if the Chiefs will elect to give Williams a chance to earn a permanent spot on their roster during training camp and the preseason.
