According to the Kansas City Chiefs' official social media account, the team has released veteran defensive lineman Mike Danna. The release was a cap space move ahead of free agency and will count $2.167 million in dead cap in 2026. The Chiefs will save almost $9 million in salary and bonuses.
Danna had been a key piece of the Chiefs' pass-rush since he joined the team as a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Michigan Wolverine was set to enter the final year of the three-year contract he signed with Kansas City in 2024.
The Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes' contract last week to continue their salary cap adjustments. Danna's release is unlikely to be the last, as free agency approaches and teams are in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine.
In Danna's six regular-season campaigns with Kansas City, Danna has logged 87 career games and tallied 221 combined tackles, 23.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and an interception.
