During a recent interview on the One54 Africa podcast, Kansas City Chiefs legend Christian Okoye explained how the current dynasty in the Patrick Mahomes era has directly boosted his off-field earnings.

"I've made more money after retirement than I did when I was playing, and I have to tell you this: the money has come since (Patrick) Mahomes came to the Chiefs," said Okoye. "You know what I'm saying?" Yeah. So, because of their success. I'm being included, and I love it."

'The Nigerian Nightmare' was a second-round pick of the Chiefs in the 1987 draft, 35th overall out of Azusa Pacific. The 6-foot-1, 253-pound bruising rusher finished with 4,897 career rushing yards.

Okoye played six seasons with an NFL rushing champion title in 1989, first-team All-Pro honors in 1989, second-team All-Pro honors in 1991, two Pro Bowl appearances in 1989 and 1991. He was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Honor in 2000, and he is the second Chiefs player ever to earn the club's Mack Lee Hill Award and team MVP honors.
