The Kansas City Chiefs opened the season with an international matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

They took a big hit to their wide receiving corps as second-year wideout Xavier Worthy left the game after their first drive with a shoulder injury.

Kansas City was depleted at the position to open the regular season due to Rashee Rice's six-game suspension. With Worthy out as well, the Chiefs will be tested at the position.

Kansas City spent a pick at the position in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals. He was inactive for Friday's game against the Chargers as he recovers from a knee injury.

Here's the current state of the Chiefs' wide receiver room and what options the have looking elsewhere.

Chiefs WR depth chart

The Chiefs are down their top two wide receivers after tonight's game. They have a handful of healthy players behind them on the active roster.

Kansas City also has undrafted free agent Jimmy Holiday signed to the practice squad.

Free agent WRs

At this point of the season, there aren't many quality wide receiver options left on the free agent market. Kansas City could sign someone from another team's practice squad but to do so they'd have to move them to the Chiefs' active roster, not their practice squad.

Diontae Johnson

The 31-year-old is a free agent after getting cut by the Baltimore Ravens before the regular season. He played for three teams last season – Carolina, Baltimore and Houston – and had three touchdowns total in 12 games.

Robert Woods

Another veteran wide receiver, the Pittsburgh Steelers cut Woods ahead of the 2025 regular season. The 12-year veteran played for Houston last season and had 20 catches for 203 yards and zero touchdowns – the first time he failed to find the end zone in his career.

Kendrick Bourne

Bourne was a key possession receiver for the San Francisco 49ers before playing with the New England Patriots for the last four seasons. He's reportedly had interest from both the 49ers and Washington Commanders.

D.J. Chark

Chark is one of the younger free agent wide receivers still on the market. The 28-year-old played in seven games for the Chargers in 2024 and caught four passes for 31 yards and a touchdown.

K.J. Osborn

Osborn spent his first four years in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings but split time between the Patriots and Commanders last season. He caught seven passes for 57 yards and a touchdown with the Patriots in his seven games with the team, including four starts.

Malachi Corley

If the Chiefs opt for a younger player, Corley's an option. New York cut the former third-round pick ahead of the regular season. He's played in nine career games with three total catches for 16 yards. Corley is currently with the Cleveland Browns on their practice squad.
