NEW PARIS, Pa. – Four pins in the first five bouts got the ball rolling for Chestnut Ridge as the Lions defeated Meyersdale 48-25 Saturday to claim their 14th straight District 5 Class 2A duals championship.
The Lions crushed Everett 70-3 in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Dominic Deputy (127 pounds), Austin Bemash (133) and Trenden Willey (139) needed a combined 59 seconds to deck the Red Raiders’ Colt Snyder, Maddox Hoover and Lucas Hobbs to give the hosts and No. 1 seed an 18-0 lead. Meyersdale’s Brennan Schardt scored a 17-1 technical fall in 5:11 over Gavin Miller to break the Lions’ run of pins that resumed at 152 as Christian Feight pinned Ethan Smith in 37 seconds.
The Red Raiders cut the lead to 24-16 with Caleb Sines receiving a forfeit at 160 before Cooper Porter carded a tech fall at 2:00.
Jaden Imler ran the lead 30-16 with his 26-second pin on Damon Katz at 189. At 215, Meyersdale’s Caleb Snyder notched a 7-0 decision over Jesse Calhoun before Gianni Browne pinned Owen Miller in 3:34 at 285.
Kooper Deputy (107) and Garrett Weyandt (121) each recorded pins to sandwich a Carter Ickes forfeit win at 114 as Chestnut Ridge posted the final 18 points of the dual.
Chestnut Ridge earned PIAA bronze dual medals in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.
The District 5 champion will host District 7 runner-up Burrell Tuesday. Burrell defeated Chestnut Ridge 34-29 in Brookville Jan. 17.
The PIAA quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be held at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown Feb. 6 and 7.
