The 2025-26 boys basketball season has reached the pinnacle: the IHSA state series, which tips off on Monday.
NIC-10 co-champs Guilford (22-7, 16-2 NIC-10) and Auburn (23-8, 16-2) earned a No. 1 and 2 seed, respectively, in the Class 4A Hononegah Sectional bracket, and all the top teams jump into the mix on Wednesday. So, too, will the local No. 1 seed in 1A, Dakota, the No. 2s in 2A, Byron and Lutheran, and Belvidere North, the Rockford area's top seed in 3A at No. 2.

"The regular season is about trying to win the conference," Auburn head coach Bryan Ott said. "And I'm proud of the way our guys have persevered up to this point. But now we have to make sure we're ready for a deep postseason run. That's it's own tough animal."
