CHEBOYGAN – Presley Chamberlain made a huge impact on the volleyball court for four years with the Cheboygan Chiefs.
She earned numerous all-conference awards and helped lift the Chiefs to success as a defensive libero, making the Northern Shores Conference first team for a second consecutive year in 2025.

But as much as Chamberlain thrived on the court, academics have always come first.
Most recently, the Cheboygan senior was one of six recipients of the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Scholarship, which is awarded to high school volleyball players who demonstrate leadership, character, and outstanding academic performance throughout their high school careers.
“It means a lot," Chamberlain said. "My mom (Niki) is always pushing me to apply for as many scholarships as possible. It’s part of her job to help people with school and financially, and she’s really been on me about that, so I’m glad to have her and thankful because she’s given me so many tips on how to stand out and how to format things properly, and I think that’s what really helped me achieve this scholarship."
It’s always a challenge to make it all work when you’re simultaneously involved with academics and athletics, but Chamberlain’s been brilliant in terms of balancing both out.
“I like to say that I’ve gotten pretty good at time management,” Chamberlain said. “If I have homework but I have a game, I try to get all my stuff done on the bus, or I always try to get my work done at the beginning of the week and as soon as possible. I think me getting it out of the way and done helps me not fall behind and not forget about it, while I’m also going to practice every night, working out and things like that, and I always try to stay focused in the classroom.”
Chamberlain became the first Cheboygan volleyball player to be a recipient of the MIVCA’s Scholarship since Cassie Barton in 2020.
Excited to see Chamberlain earn the award was Cheboygan volleyball coach Jordan Barrette, who praised the senior for her tremendous leadership in both fields.
“I’m very proud of her not only for her commitment to athletics but also for her leadership and dedication to academics,” Barrette said. “She is well deserving of this scholarship, and it is great to see her representing Cheboygan in this.”
Prioritizing education has been No. 1 for Chamberlain, who’s surrounded herself with family and friends who think the same way she does. As a result, it’s allowed her to progress as a student, lead exceptionally, and stay on top of things consistently.
“It’s about making sure that everyone on my team is also staying involved in education, too, because it’s tough, especially in high school," Chamberlain said. "You’re really busy, and I just think studying hard while you’re in school is the most important thing because if you kind of just don’t pay attention in school and don’t care, you will fall behind and won’t be as successful. Just me giving that same dedication to school and athletics and making sure to balance them has really helped me be successful in both fields.”
