The Chargers are hiring Adam Gase as an assistant focusing on the passing game, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

The move marks Gase's return to coaching after a five-year hiatus since his 2020 stint with the Jets.

Gase also served as the head coach of the Dolphins from 2016 to 2018, leading them to their first playoff berth in nearly a decade during his first year.

Before his time as a head coach, Gase served as the Broncos' offensive coordinator (2013-2014), where he oversaw Peyton Manning's record-breaking offense, which set the NFL record for points and passing touchdowns.

In 2015, he was the Bears' OC and was credited with helping Jay Cutler achieve some of the highest efficiency marks of his career.

Other coaching roles include the Lions' quarterbacks coach (2007) and 49ers' offensive assistant (2008).
