Los Angeles Chargers center Bradley Bozeman announced his retirement from the NFL after eight seasons in the league. He spent the final two seasons of his career with Los Angeles.

“This game has given me so much — lessons, lifelong friendships, and memories my family will carry forever,” Bozeman said in his post. “I’ve poured everything I had into this journey, and I walk away grateful and proud.”

The Chargers signed Bozeman as a free agent in March 2024 after the Carolina Panthers released him from the team. The goal was for him to bolster the interior line.

Off the field, Bozeman was heavily involved in helping the community and is the co-founder of The Bradley and Nikki Bozeman Foundation. He organized multiple food drives around Southern California and Charlotte, North Carolina. Bozeman was also a captain for both of his seasons with the Chargers.

But on the field this season, the interior line was the Chargers’ biggest weakness. Bozeman acknowledged that struggle after losing to the New England Patriots in the NFL Wild Card Round in January.

“There’s things that I wish I could take back, obviously, but overall, I feel like I had a solid year. A lot of people don’t think that, but a lot of people aren’t in our room,” Bozeman said at the end of the Chargers’ season, per ESPN’s Kris Rhim, “… So for me, I’m proud of this year. I’m proud of myself.”

In addition to the Chargers and Panthers, Bozeman played the first four seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens drafted Bozeman in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Bozeman played in 129 career games and made 110 starts across his career with all three franchises.

How Does Bozeman’s Retirement Impact the Chargers?

The Chargers will need to add a new center to the roster to replace Bozeman at the position. The team likely would have brought in another center regardless of his retirement to try to improve the weak interior line.

“Someone once told me, ‘Every career — no matter how decorated — ends in a trash bag’ The game moves on. Someone fills your spot,” Bozeman wrote in his retirement post.

Bozeman had one year remaining on a two-year, $6.5 million contract he signed with the franchise last offseason. His retirement will add $6.935 million of cap space for the Bolts.

Los Angeles has multiple ways to replace Bozeman through free agency and the draft. With Bozeman’s retirement, the Chargers are projected to have around $83 million in cap space, and the franchise has five picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
