He’s entering the last year of his contract and they haven’t committed to him so he’s up in the air.

it’s kind of odd. If your the Cardinals and your not going to commit to him then you would think you would of traded him on draft day

if you are going to commit to him then you sign him to an extension.

he’s coming off an upper body injury so he should be fine this season and if he goes out and balls out he’s going to want big time money and you could of signed him for cheaper.

this just makes no sense the way the Cardinals have handled this

I see many billionaire players, from both soccer and football not having a real understanding of the situation with went through with covid 19
How many companies have gone bankrupt but still they want getting paid like nothing happen
Chandler joners is 31, and coming from a season ending injury, he has about 20 mil salary this season, just enjoy it and prove u are still one of the best
He made already huge money
An example a team like Barcelona have had a significant financial loss, more than 200 mil €
They are trying to rework every contracts or getting rid of some of them
Thats why some of the top teams tried to create an indipendent european league, they are underwater
players dont want to make any discount but demanding

Yeah sorry no pity for literally immortal businesses that can write off losses and use them to defer taxes on gains for a decade versus players who’s maximum earning years are measured on two hands.

sorry that Barca leverages themselves with debt and didn’t have an avenue to keep paying their players (allegedly).

get your money Chandler. This team won’t hesitate to throw you overboard the moment you slip the smallest bit.

I can see it for both sides.

ARZ is concerned about giving Jones big money coming off a major surgery going on 32 and the fact that he really underperformed prior to the injury.

Jones is trying to collect one more big contract but realistically shouldn't expect more than a 3 year extension especially if we wants to be highest paid pass rusher.

I think a compromise of something in neighborhood of 3yr - $45M extension with incentives if he makes All Pro / Pro Bowl / DPOY.

Unless he’s asking for a ridiculous amount. There are things called negotiations.

Great news for folks who best against Cardinals reaching playoffs in Vegas. For the rest of us, this news sucks!

Starting tomorrow, watch out for 98.7 hit pieces against Chandler Jones. If they don't do a hit piece, then you know the negotiations negotiations are still on

Why can't NFL players exercise their right to free market enterprise
This was kind of inevitable after they gave Watt $23 million guaranteed and kept CJ on a contract with no guaranteed money.

He was probably insulted.

IMO, it all depends upon which CJ we'll have in 2021. The 'old' CJ or the one who played in the first five games (I believe) last year. If TC shows that it's the 'old' CJ, then let's negotiate a new deal. If it looks like he's lost his fast ball, see if we can trade him.

NFL players are not billionaires and contracts aren’t guaranteed in the NFL it’s by far the most cut throat when it comes to money for the athlete.

and the NFL didn’t lose money last year.

You mean they kept CJ on the contract that he agreed to?

you don’t let your star go into the last year of his contract up in the air. Especially when he’s out performed his contract and has been nothing but great for you

you commit time him and if your not then you should of traded him on draft day.

I'm assuming the cards have offered an extension, but he wants more. When your 31, and coming off injury...your not in a great negotiating position. There is no way the cards have told him his only choice is to play out his current deal, so this is just a negotiating ploy.

There are plenty of instances to be pro player/anti-organization but this isn’t one of them. Had Jones played well last season they would’ve extended him but he’s 31 and was injured/ineffective last year. It’s pretty simple.

A tad too little a little too late, that's Keim's position. To get to a Super Bowl you need a lot of luck and great drafts and not just average in this cap age. Sure Keim has his stud young QB on his cap friendly third year but he has botched his drafts enough to this point, again those stellar drafts one needs to attain the big prize, that going all in is fine and dandy and what one wishes to do but we are in the NFC West and frankly he cannot make of the roster which is not there with older pedigree players to carry the load. The AJ Green/JJ Watt players only work when they are signed to compliment sufficient existing talent. We might have a playoff team but the prize is the Super Bowl. Solution, you trade your 31 year old pass rusher when a majority of the league will still think he may have something left after his injury and hope you make the playoffs and that allows you another shot after guys like Simmons, Collins and Moore hopefully turn out as good players with experience and then one more draft to get you to the Big Dance

this isn’t a pro/anti argument this is a poorly handled situation

if your the Cardinals and you know your not going to resign him then you need to trade him during draft day to 1 replace him 2 get future assets. You need to set yourself up for the future and do what’s best for the team

if your the cardinals and you are going to resign him then you just do it. You show a guy who’s been nothing but amazing for you that you value him.

so now you run the risk of having a high profile player be a distraction going in to the season

he’s out performed his contract and it’s a joke that a guy like that makes 14 million a year.

But it’s always pro play IMO

and the fact guys like you want to throw away 4 years of the most insane production at edge we’ve ever seen in a cardinal uniform because he had a bad 4 games is exactly why these guys need to fight for every dollar. His injury is an upper body injury lets not act like he tore his knee up. Trust me teams are going to want him
