Former NFL linebacker Chad Brown strongly rejected LeSean McCoy‘s claim that Antonio Brown should be taken over Jerry Rice. Brown argued that Rice’s career separates him from every other receiver.
McCoy made the comparison while appearing on Speakesy, praising Antonio Brown’s peak and overall ability. He went as far as choosing Brown over Rice.
“[Antonio Brown] should be a first ballot HOFer… If it’s AB or Jerry Rice, I’m taking AB,” McCoy said.
That opinion immediately drew a sharp response from Chad Brown. The former linebacker argued that Rice’s greatness cannot be measured only through athletic ability or peak production.
“This is some clown s**t,” Brown said.

Rice played 20 NFL seasons and remains the league’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards and total touchdowns. His 1,549 receptions and 22,895 receiving yards remain unmatched.
Antonio Brown’s peak was exceptional, however. From 2013 through 2018, he became one of the league’s most productive receivers while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brown also recorded six straight seasons with at least 100 receptions. His five-year stretch from 2013 through 2017 produced historic numbers and established him as one of his era’s best players.

“Jerry Rice isn’t just the greatest WR all time, he is top 5 football player all time,” Brown said.
He then highlighted the difference in receiving production.
He said, “If AB put up 15 straight 1,000 yard seasons, 15 straight, he would still be 7,895 yards short of Jerry’s total.”
That argument reflects the biggest issue with comparing Brown’s peak against Rice’s entire career. Brown’s best stretch was extraordinary, but Rice maintained elite production for two decades.
Rice also won three Super Bowls and earned 10 first-team All-Pro selections. Brown won one Super Bowl and earned four first-team All-Pro selections.
Chad Brown also argued that greatness requires more than natural ability.
“It’s skills no doubt, but also craft, consistency, durability, mental focus, preparation and not allowing anything to derail their greatness,” he said.

Antonio Brown’s off-field issues eventually ended his career prematurely. Rice, meanwhile, continued producing deep into his 30s and even recorded 1,211 yards at age 40.
That longevity remains the strongest argument for Rice. McCoy’s comparison highlights Brown’s peak, but Rice’s complete career remains in another category.
