The Tennessee Volunteers football team is aiming to put together a massive recruiting class in 2027. They had a strong weekend on Rocky Top, hosting some of the biggest names in the cycle as they look to build momentum.

Tennessee, for the most part, had a very successful weekend, showcasing what it means to be a Volunteer. The program secured a couple of commitments and may be close to landing another from Q’Mari Hudson.

“According to Simmons, Hudson, who took an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend, was initially planning to announce his commitment in July, but he’s now planning to commit on June 13,” A To Z Zach Ragan wrote.

The Volunteers also hosted one of their top targets in the 2027 class, David Gabriel Georges. Tennessee made a clear effort to impress him, including a stop in the weight room.

“Owings, who was a key part of Indiana’s national championship run last season (it probably doesn’t happen without him), is one of the top strength coaches in the nation. He’s one of the biggest weapons the Vols have in the battle against Ohio State for Gabriel Georges. And it’s certainly a big positive that Tennessee made sure to make time between photo shoots and fashion shows to show Gabriel Georges what he undoubtedly cares about the most during the visit,” Ragan wrote.

It will be an interesting recruiting battle for Georges, but Tennessee appears to be gaining momentum. In fact, On3’s Chad Simmons provided a strong update in the race for his commitment.

“If Signing Day was today, Heupel’s program would be my pick,” Simmons wrote.

Tennessee’s running backs have experienced major success over the last few seasons under Josh Heupel’s system. Landing a powerhouse like Georges would suggest that trend is not slowing down.

If anything, Georges could elevate the running back room to another level and help attract more elite talent in future recruiting cycles. The race still has a month or two to go, but Heupel and his staff are in a strong position at the moment.
