Dec. 16—JAMESTOWN — Edison Walters had a great game on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, it didn't translate into a team win.
Walters and the Jamestown High School boys basketball team fell 111-49 to Bismarck Century in the team's conference opener. The loss puts Jamestown at 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the WDA. The Blue Jays will be back in action on Thursday at Mandan. Tipoff between the Jays and Braves is set for 7:45 p.m.
"We played a great experienced team that lost one game last year is filled with outstanding athletes and (is) well-coached," JHS head coach Tim Ranum said in a postgame interview on Tuesday. "We just don't match up well at all and are still in the learning stage. We had a lot of kids compete and get better, and the great thing about our league is that we have another good team to play on Thursday."
Walters led the Blue Jays in total scoring with 20 points while first-year starter, Abel Dolokelen notched eight points. Gradin Thorlakson, Jamison Kleinjan and Kale Verke combined for 19 points. Hudson Rode rounded out the Jays' scoring with two points.
Gibson Kinnebrew led all game-scorers with 32 points while Camden Kraemer posted a respectable 22 points. Garrett Nissley, was the final member of the Patriot roster, to record a double-digit point total. Nissley scored 14 points.
"(We need to have a) short memory," Ranum said. "There is a chance to get better tomorrow at practice, and then we are going to try and get our first WDA win on Thursday."
