The Boston Celtics trade buzz involving Jaylen Brown has swirled since his reported inclusion in the team's offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, after the Milwaukee Bucks accepted the Miami Heat's offer for Antetokounmpo, the strong belief was that Brown would still be dealt. After being connected to several teams, the Celtics ultimately pulled off a stunner by agreeing to deal the All-Star guard to an Eastern Conference rival in the Philadelphia 76ers, as ESPN's Shams Charania first reported.

The trade includes Brown heading to Philly in exchange for Paul George and multiple draft picks. Charania detailed the terms of the picks shortly after, as seen below.

  • Celtics get: Paul George, two first-round picks (2028 first-rounder can convert to a pick swap if more favorable to Boston and 2031 first-rounder), a 2028 second-rounder and 2030 second-round selection.
  • 76ers get: Jaylen Brown

Details on 76ers picks to the Celtics, per sources:

-- 2028 first-round pick that could convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston

-- 2031 unprotected Philadelphia first

-- 2028 second round, most favorable of GSW/OKC/MIL

-- 2030 second, most favorable… https://t.co/nbxdEsvB4f

Although it's far from a surprise that Brown was traded shortly after the start of 2026 NBA free agency, the fact that it was the Sixers on the receiving end is certainly eyebrow-raising. This deal comes almost exactly two months after Philadelphia pulled off a shocking postseason comeback against the Celtics. After trailing in the series 3-1, the 76ers won three straight, including two in Boston, to eliminate their rival in the first round.

Now, Brown and George will face their former teams several times throughout the 2026-27 season, and it's bound to make for must-see TV.
