Celtics Reportedly Getting Frustrated With Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Process originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics have been linked with Giannis Antetokounmpo in trade rumors, but the entire situation is dragging out.
In May, Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam noted that it would be best for the Bucks to trade the two-time MVP before the NBA Draft. Well, the self-imposed deadline is approaching, and a trade is reportedly not close to being done. The Miami Heat and Celtics have emerged as the top two candidates to land Antetokounmpo.
While it was initially believed that Antetokounmpo would be dealt by the draft, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Wednesday that the situation could drag into July. The Bucks reportedly have offers from the Heat and Celtics, but do not have an offer they like enough to accept yet.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Celtics are becoming frustrated with the entire trade situation. Not only is it taking longer than expected, but with every leak and report that mentions Jaylen Brown, the Celtics' relationship with Brown is potentially deteriorating.
Antetokounmpo would certainly help the Celtics, and he and Jayson Tatum would be one of the best duos in basketball. However, the Celtics already have a proven duo in Brown and Tatum. They have been to the NBA Finals twice and won a championship together in 2024. The Celtics would be fine without Antetokounmpo, and if they drop out of the race, it would not be a shock.
