Celtics linked to Jaylen Brown-centered trade for $134 million former Warriors superstar originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Are the Boston Celtics preparing to end the Jaylen Brown era this offseason?
Based on various reports, it’ll depend on the level of offers they receive for their 28.7 points-per-game stud. Brown was the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade package that would have sent him and two first-round picks to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
With the Miami Heat outdueling Boston for Antetokounmpo, and Brown’s relationship with the Celtics likely deteriorating, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst’s Tuesday morning report that the former first-round pick could be the next high-profile star on the move makes perfect sense.
CBS Sports’ Jack Maloney took things a step further by suggesting that the Celtics could send Brown to the Houston Rockets for a former Golden State Warriors superstar.
“Houston Rockets: Kevin Durant, Clint Capela, and some combination of pick(s) and swaps to the Celtics for Brown,” Maloney wrote.
Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko is now on the record, stating that the Rockets are open to trading everyone on their roster except Amen Thompson, opening the door for a monster Durant-Celtics deal.
A Jayson Tatum-Durant duo in Boston would make for must-see TV, as both contributors are gifted isolation-oriented wings who have been top–2 scoring options on championship teams (Tatum averaged 26.9 points per game on the Celtics’ title-winning 2023-24 squad while Durant contributed 25.0 points and 26.4 points per contest on back-to-back Warriors championship teams).
Of course, there’s a good chance that it would take some time for the two future Hall of Famers to gel on the hardwood, but there’s no denying that the Celtics’ ceiling would be positively affected upon Durant’s arrival.
