“I see some comments or takes that I didn’t even care to see, but it just gives me more fuel to the fire,” Boston Celtics All-Star wing Jaylen Brown said on his Twitch recently. “So to all the people that’s doubting me — that want me to do this, or want me gone, or whatever — you’re turning me into a monster.”
ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania just threw gasoline on that fire.
Chris Haynes was the first to report Monday night that the Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. Then, Charania reported the context, including what the Boston Celtics were willing to give up to get Antetokounmpo.
“The Celtics aggressively pursued Giannis, offering Milwaukee a package featuring 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks, sources tell ESPN,” Charania posted on X. “The Bucks seriously negotiated with two finalists in recent weeks: Miami and Boston, which were both on Antetokounmpo’s list of preferred destinations.”

Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin O’Connor reported that Bucks owner Jimmy Haslam, who also owns the Cleveland Browns, “was a driving force” behind aceepting the Heat’s offer over Boston’s.
“Haslam didn’t want to risk Jaylen Brown wanting out of Milwaukee in a year after dealing with Giannis and Myles Garrett trade demands,” O’Connor wrote. “Haslam wanted certainty, and the Miami deal provided more of that with more total assets in return to Milwaukee.”
So, not only did the Celtics toss Brown in a trade package, but the Bucks didn’t deem a package featuring Brown good enough to accept? Haslam wasn’t willing to bet on Brown?
Brown’s next Twitch stream is going to be an all-timer.
The Bucks opted for what Charania reported to be the Heat’s offer, which, on its face, is admittedly better: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round draft picks, one pick swap, and one second-round pick.
“The Heat are sending to Milwaukee unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033 along with No. 13, a pick swap in 2030 and a 2033 second-rounder, according to sources,” Charania wrote. “The trade does not include any additional teams — it is a one-to-one move, sources said — but both the Heat and Bucks will execute the deal on July 6, which leaves the framework open to see if there are opportunities to expand.”
This does not mean that Brown will be in Boston when next season starts. In fact, it seems more likely than ever that he will be moved, even if it’s not to the Bucks.
Brown, 29, averaged career highs across the board this season when tasked with being the Celtics’ clear-cut No. 1 while Jayson Tatum recovered from a torn Achilles. The day after Boston was eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs, Brown said on Twitch that it had been “my favorite year of my basketball career.”
